MOSCOW – Russian chef Alexei Kabanov (38) has been found guilty of decapitating his wife, leading police on a fake manhunt and chopping his wife’s body to pieces.
Just days ago, Kabanov posted an unsettling message to his 1300 followers asking them to help him find his wife Irina, 39.
“Friends, help me, Irina has disappeared,” Kabanov wrote on his facebook page. Kabanov also wrote about the search for her and how scared he was she might have left him.
By all accounts, Alexei Kabanov is a well liked figure in Russia. He owns several bars frequented by artists and journalists. When he pleaded for help to find his missing wife, even psychics volunteered.
One week after his wife disappeared, Kabanov gave an interview on a national Russian TV station from one of his kitchens. Little did people watching the interview know then that this was the same kitchen in which Kabanov had strangled his wife just 10 days prior.
But Russian police quickly uncovered the real truth behind Irina’s disappearance. They tapped into Kabanov’s telephone and uncovered the chef was having an affair.
A few days later they stormed Kabanov’s home where they eventually found Irina’s body on the balcony, chopped in pieces, neatly stacked and wrapped in foil.
Shortly thereafter Alexei Kabanov confessed to his macabre crime. He told police his wife had uncovered his affair. They were in the kitchen, the same kitchen he gave the interview from, when a argument between them broke out.
Kabanov then grabbed a computer cord that lay nearby and used it to strangle his wife. Then he dragged her body to the bathtub where he chopped it to pieces with his butcher knife.
Chef Alexei Kabanov was arrested and taken to jail where he’ll stay until his trial on March 12th. If found guilty, he may get 15 years imprisonment.
Kabanov and his deceased wife Irina, who was a radio announcer, had 3 young children together.
