SYDNEY – The town of Townsville, Australia, is literally blown to pieces when a violent storm surged through the area.

The mini tornado blew winds in excess of 75 miles per hour, sweeping entire rooftops from some 60 homes and buildings.

Cars were thrown about like toys, trees were toppled and power lines snapped under the strong wind pressure. 13 people got injured.

“I am shocked by the size of damage. Some victims won’t be able to return to their homes for months,” said Anna Bligh, Premier of Queensland.

Eyewitness Erin Matinca said “the entire home shook, especially upstairs. The noise was deafening.”

Tony Ebon said the storm blew his heavy duty 2 ton trailer 2 blocks from his home. For Shane Fayers and his family, the toilet was the only place where they were safe. The rest of their home was completely demolished.

“All in all, the tornado didn’t last more than 10 minutes but I could feel the house being torn apart,” said Fayers.

Soldiers from a nearby base have been called in to help with the rescue efforts.
