(NDJ) – Chantal Banks has an obsession. She is head over heels in love with rats. Banks loves her 19 rats so much she admits they occupy the number one spot in her heart.

“I love my rats more than people, including my ex-husband,” Chantal says about her pets that roam freely in her house.

“Chantal Banks says she loves rats more than she loves people, including her husband.”

Chantal says her obsession with rats began when she was just 16 years old. “When I saw my first rat I knew exactly what my calling was in life,” the Banks says during the taping of the TV program ‘My Crazy Obsession’, which airs on TLC – see below.

“Since then I have been surrounded by lots of rats and I can’t imagine being without them even for just one day.

Chantal Banks admits that her rats are ‘like her children’. They roam through the house, sleep with her and are allowed to feed from her mouth.

“When I cry they lick my tears away,” Chantal says.

Each one of Chantal’s rats has its own name reflecting their personality. According to the rat lover “Burka loves to eat but does not enjoy sports”. “Janice loves to kiss and Lilly is a real jumper.”

“My rats love me the way I am, they don’t judge me,” Chantal says.

Not so long ago, Chantal was happily married to Chester. Together they have a son, Kevin, who says “my brothers and sisters were rats when I grew up”.

At first Chester didn’t mind the rats but as times passed and it became clear to Chester that Chantal’s obsession with her rats grew out of control, Chester packed his bags and walked out on an 11 years old marriage.

“My husband didn’t really want to take care of my rats anymore and it was very demoralizing and it was very difficult,” Chantal admits. “But I realize my husband will never have the same type of bond I have with them.”
