MIAMI – British heartthrob Davy Jones who became the lead singer for the famous 60s and 70s band ‘The Monkeys’ died earlier this morning.

The 66 year old allegedly suffered a heart attack. He died at the Martin Memorial Hospital in Florida.

Jones joined the American pop band in 1965 and together with the other members of the band, Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, they released a series of hugely popular songs and 3 number 1 hits: “Daydream Believer,” “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer.”

Davy’s last performance was on February 19th in Oklahoma and the night before, he performed at BB King in NYC. During neither performances did Jones indicate something was not physically right.

Davy Jones is survived by his third wife Jessica Pacheco and 4 daughters from previous marriages.
