AMSTERDAM – Prostitution is legal and abundant at the ‘red light district’ in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

But in many countries, offering a woman’s body for money is not legal and prostitution rings selling and trading woman of all ages illegally, can be found throughout the world.

To make people aware of illegal human trafficking, the ‘Dutch Girls’ came up with a rather unique but entertaining, eye catching protest that many bystanders will still talk about for a while smiling ear to ear.

Standing in front of their windows, enticing men to check them out and come on it for a good time, the Dutch prostitutes suddenly break out in dance moves. Before long, girls on the top floor join the dance parade, much to the amusement of eager onlookers.

Loud applause rises from the growing crowd as the women shake their hips, and move their bodies in sultry fashion.

As the crowd watch the women dance, a message suddenly flashed from the top of the building, displaying a serious message against human trafficking.

“Every year thousands of women are promised a dance career in Western Europe. Sadly, they end up here.”

The crowd’s faces tense up and smiles disappear as they read sign and the harsh reality of ‘flesh for money’ begins to sink in.

Not just in Europe but across the globe, prostitution businesses produce millions of dollars for countries, whether those government have legalized the trade or not.

Yet often, the women get little or no support from the government, are often ‘worked out and beat up’ by the time they reach 35 and rarely have a retirement package to fall back on to.

The Netherlands is one of the few countries where prostitution is considered a legitimate business and the women of the trade are considered to perform legitimate work that qualifies for the same benefits other job earners get in that country.

Thousands of others however are not so lucky and get lost in a world of illegal prostitution, drugs and violence; the world of human trafficking.
