DUBLIN – If making lots of money is difficult, holding on to it once you got it seems to be almost impossible.

Such is the lesson U2 bassist Adam Clayton learned the hard way when his personal assistant allegedly robbed him of $US3 million, according to Irish media.

According to a Dublin court, Clayton’s personal assistant, stole and cashed 181 checks belonging to the guitarist between 2004 and 2008, totaling $US3 million.

The woman, whose identity has been withheld, lived rent-free at Clayton’s home in a suburb of Dublin, when the money disappeared.

Clayton originally hired the woman as his cleaning lady but overtime developed so much trust and confidence in her that he promoted her to his personal assistance.

The woman denies all allegations.

A spokesperson for the U2 bassist said he is unable to comment as long as the legal case is ongoing.
