HOLLYWOOD – Katie Holmes reportedly asked for a divorce from actor Tom Cruise when she learned that he wanted to send their daughter Suri to the Sea Organization or Scientology club.

Cruise, often jokingly called the ‘poster boy for Scientology’, is an avid member of what many consider to be a cult of extreme believes.

The Church of Scientology was founded by L. Ron Hubbard in 1951, as a successor to his earlier self-help system, Dianetics.

Scientology teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature and practitioners are taught through specific methods to consciously re-experience painful or traumatic events in their past in order to free themselves of their limiting effects.

The Sea Organization is a special Scientology place for the ‘advanced’. The ‘club’ has about 6,000 members who are ordered not to have more children; they can’t earn more than $US50 per week and could be punished for looking at someone adversely.

Former members of the Sea Organization have come forth stating that while staying at the facilities they were exposed to a brutal regime.

A man by the name Lawrence claimed he was once held in ‘the cage’ for 18 hours without food when he was a member of the organization. After leaving the convent, he sued the company and won an unprecedented $US30 million settlement. His share of the giant pot ended up being $US2 million after legal and other expenses.

A teary eyed Debbie Cook told in 2007 how she had to spend 12 hours in the cage, standing in a large garbage bin while other prisoners continuously poured water over her and called her ‘lesbian’.

The cage door was guarded 24/7. Prisoners ate and slept on the floor and one was only allowed outside the cage for a brief moment to take a shower, according to Cook.

Cook said a ‘billion years of silence oath’ was mandatory; not as a sign of loyalty and commitment to the convent but as a means of expressing holy believes in reincarnation.

Those that lasted were then told to pay huge sums, often in the six figures, to continue the learning process. Those that wanted to leave were allowed but under severe pressure and not until ‘mind-changing’ principles were instilled.

Escape is nearly impossible: the entire compound is enclosed with razor-blades covered wire and cameras record a member’s every move.

A secret location has a complete view over the facilities. The leaders live in utmost luxury and must be addressed at all times as ‘Sir’.

It’s that sense of ‘extreme regime’ that had Katie Holmes scramble for her daughter’s well-being by wanting to divorce Tom and asking for sole custody of Suri, according to an insider close to Katie.

Since the divorce, Katie and Suri have been inseparable. The two were spotted together enjoying an ice cream. The huge smile on Katie’s face, reflecting a real sense of relief, speaks volumes.
