NEW YORK – Lady Gaga may be the undisputed Twitter Queen with 29 million followers but that doesn’t mean she’s as popular as you might think.
According to The Huffington Post, 72 percent of Gaga’s Twitter followers are either fake or inactive. That means a whopping 20 million plus Gaga followers are just there occupying server space and nothing more.

The site claims it derived at that percentage using the tool ‘Fake Follower Check’ created by StatusPeople, which allows anyone to quickly and easily calculate if a Twitter follower is ‘inactive’ or ‘fake’.
“A fake account is used to either stalk people or to send out spam email and they don’t have followers of their own, while an inactive account could be with real people but just doesn’t have much activity,” explain Rob Waller of StatusPeople.
In Lady Gaga’s case her Twitter population translate into 34 percent of followers being fake and 38 percent being inactive. Only 28 percent of her Twitter ‘entourage’ are loyal followers with normal activity.
Of course Lady Gaga isn’t the only celebrity with ‘that problem’ but it demonstrates that even a person as popular as Lady Gaga isn’t actually all that popular online as one might think.
