LONDON – An auction in the U.K. sold The King’s bible but not his underpants that auctioneers were certain was going to fetch $US30K.
The bible, which Elvis received in 1957 during his first Christmas at Graceland, had scribbled sidelines and notes made by the King and sold for $US75,000.
But the legendary performer’s underpants that he wore under his white jumpsuit during a 1977 concert, found no buyer.
Starting bid for the undergarment was placed at $US10,000 but the highest bid received by the auction house was only $US8,250.
An American, living in the U.K., bought Presley’s bible. A movie contract signed by Elvis for the 1962 movie ‘Follow That Dream’ was sold for $US7,200 and a pair of custom made shoes for the King were auctioned off for $US10,156.
