LOS ANGELES – A man and a woman were sentenced to 292 days behind bars by a Los Angeles court for their attempt to blackmail singer Steve Wonder.

The couple allegedly contacted Wonder in May telling him they had a video that would be damaging to his reputation and demanded the performer paid $US5 million to keep the footage from public view.

Stevie Wonder’s lawyers arranged a mock meeting with the couple and the two were arrested shortly thereafter.

Los Angeles police states the footage is about 80 minutes long and is mostly a tirade against Stevie Wonder.

A portion of the film was shot at the house of recently deceased mother of the singer. Another part of the footage contains content about Stevie Wonder’s son, whom he has tried hard to protect from the media and keep out of the public eye.

In addition to 292 days behind bars the couple also received a 3 years probation during which time they are forbidden to have any contact with or come near Stevie Wonder.
