LONDON – The outspoken host of one of the U.K.’s most watched TV shows, Jeremy Clarkson, sold the production company that makes ‘Top Gear’, to BBC for $US10 million, giving BBC full control over the show.

For Clarkson, the sale translates into an additional $US6.25 million in his pocket.

For the man who often puts his foot in his mouth, the deal is only sweetened by Clarkson also getting a contract signed with BBC making him the exclusive host of the show for the next 3 years. He’ll be paid an additional $US6.25 million under that agreement.

Clarkson owned 50 percent of ‘Bedder 6′, the production company of ‘Top Gear’. The remaining 50 percent were owned by producer Andy Wilman.

Co-hosts of the show James May and Richard Hammond also got new contracts signed worth undisclosed amounts of money.

BBC, which just recently announced it must ‘save money’; justified the purchase of Top Gear saying that the income of the very successful show seen around the world is now going directly to the company.
