NEW YORK – Singer Lady Gaga received the John Lennon Award for her involvement as a political activist.
“Lady Gaga is one of the biggest living performers of our time. She is not only an artist. She is also an activist who uses her art to better communicate with the world,” said Yoko Ono, who handed out the award.“She’s given the prize because she’s an activist and because her album ‘Born This Way’ changed the mental map of the world on a large scale.”
The twice-annual prize – LennonOno Grant For Peace – will be handed to Lady Gaga on October 12 during a special ceremony held in Iceland.
