HOLLYWOOD – Guitarist Alvin Lee of the legendary 60s band ’10 Years After’ died on Wednesday. He was 68 years young.

Alvin Lee died unexpectedly from consequences of a routine surgery, according to his family.

Lee was born ‘Graham Alvin Barnes’ on December 19 1944 in Nottingham, U.K. Lee began playing guitar when he turned 13 years old. Five years later he went pro in 1962.

The guitarist got his break in 1967 when his band ‘Ten Years After’ landed its first record deal.

In 1969 the band became world famous when they appeared on Woodstock and Alvin Lee amazed everyone with just how quickly he could move his fingers over the guitar when playing “I’m Going Home”.

Alvin Lee released his final album ‘Still on the Road to Freedom’ just last year.
