Hawaii Adopts “Steven Tyler Act”

HONOLULU – Rock singer Steven Tyler goes down in history as the one person who managed to make the paparazzi profession illegal in Hawaii.

Known as ‘The Steven Tyler Act’, pushy photographers bothering celebrities anywhere in Hawaii will henceforth be breaking the law on the Islands and subject to civil litigation.

Tyler got support from Democratic senator Kalani English after photos of him being seen with a date in Hawaii, appeared in a gossip paper in December 2012.

23 out of 25 senators approved ‘The Steven Tyler Act’. English hopes that the new law will attract more celebrities to Hawaii.

But not everyone is for the new ‘against paparazzi act’. Republican senator Sam Slom says the bill is not necessary.

Slom says Hawaii has enough privacy laws in place to account for pushy photographers. He also believes the new law violates the United States constitution.

Journalist bases interest groups have also expressed their disapproval of the new act.

The bill must still be approved by Hawaii’s House of Representatives.
